The other day me and Trenton were running errands near my parents house, so we decided to pop over to their house to say hello. When we got there, my dad was working outside, my mom was at work, and my little niece Scarlett was waking up from a nap. So me and Trenton decided to take Scarlett ย on a trip to the park! I wore this super comfy Theory sweater that I got from ThredUP. It looks brand new, and it was originally $275 but I got it for $30! A literally steal. If you haven’t checked out this store yet, you need too. You can read more about my experience with ThredUP here.

So normally Scarlett doesn’t like to hang with me. If my mom is around, then I’m pretty much chopped liver. But since my mom was working, I was the next best thing. ๐Ÿ˜‰ We took her around in the stroller, looked at the ducks, played on the playground, and swung her on the swing. It was so fun! We took her over to the lighthouse and saw a huge alligator swimming by, and she was not phased one bit! A true Florida girl. She said the alligator was going to see it’s mom- ha. Then she asked where it’s home was. She is such a kindhearted little gal! I feel so bad for her, with her dad being dead. When we were at my parent’s house, my brother’s old motorcycle was on the carport and she was like “that my dada’s bike”. It makes me so said that she won’t ever see him again. But I’m glad she’s got such a great Papa and Mommom (my parents) who help take care of her throughout the week.

One of the worst parts about moving to East Asia (yes, post coming soon..) is that I won’t be able to see my niece and nephew grow up! I will just be that aunt who’s out traveling the world that they only see once every three years. But I am going to make sure to send them cool gifts from the countries I visit! And for now, I will soak up all the time I have with them. Which might backfire, because I think Trenton’s getting baby fever.

But being an aunt is great. You can do all the fun stuff without actually having to do any of the hard stuff. It’s awesome- for both me, and for her. I told my sister that I’m officially claiming the “cool aunt” card. hehe.

Do you have any nieces or nephews? What do you do with them for fun? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

  1. She reminds me of a girl I went to preschool with, her hair was same color, and she wore pigtails as well.

I completely agree about the aunt thing! I’m not an aunt, but I enjoy when I visit my friends to make sure I give attention to the kids so they feel comfortable with me, instead of awkward. I know what that’s like. I have a number of friends with kids, and I’ve never desired kids of my own. It’s nice to be able to spoil kids, have fun with them, see through their perspective, and then leave. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Enjoy every moment while you can! You will be the aunt they talk about who is so cool! I love being an aunt! Sometimes I even take revenge on my brothers – musical gifts, lots of sugar, etc. LOL

  3. How cute is this! I do have two nephews and I have yet to meet them (1 year old and a 2 year old). We live so far and with all that’s being going on with my daughter we haven’t been able to travel. I do my best to send cool gifts though too!

PS – I can’t wait to read your post about moving to East Asia
